Ghost's core thesis is that publishing should be simple and sustainable. The writing experience is minimal and distraction-free, the newsletter integration is native (not a plugin), and the paid membership feature connects directly to Stripe without transaction fees. Ghost Pro handles infrastructure so you never touch a server.

Wix's newsletter feature (via Wix Email Marketing) exists and handles basic send campaigns, but it's not comparable to Ghost's deep integration with publication workflows. Wix doesn't have native paid newsletter subscriptions — you'd need a third-party service like Beehiiv or Substack for that, which defeats the purpose.

For general business websites — a restaurant, a local service company, a portfolio with multiple sections — Wix is dramatically more capable. Five hundred apps in the Wix App Market cover booking systems, events, galleries, loyalty programs, and more. Ghost is literally just a publishing platform; it doesn't have these general business features.

SEO performance: Ghost generates fast, clean HTML that performs well in Core Web Vitals. Wix has improved significantly but still carries more JavaScript overhead. For content-heavy publishers where organic search is the primary traffic channel, Ghost's performance advantage is meaningful.
